The Electrotoad MK2 is a versatile DC bench power supply unit with multiple output channels.
The Electrotoad MK2 is a versatile DC bench power supply unit, perfect for a range of applications including hobby and DIY projects, electroplating, electroetching, and testing equipment. It features four output channels—3.3V, 5V, 12V, and an adjustable channel—each with two sets of banana plug sockets for solid voltage channels and one set for the adjustable channel.
· Hobby and DIY projects
· Electroplating
· Electroetching
· DC electronics power supply
· Testing equipment
· Multiple Output Channels: 3.3V, 5V, 12V
· Overcurrent Detection and Reset Above 4 Volts: Provides protection in high-voltage scenarios
· Short Circuit Detection:Ensures safe operation during tasks that may result in temporary short circuits
· Easily Replaceable Parts:Simplified maintenance and repairs
· ABS Front Panel: Durable and user-friendly design
· Dual Cooling Fans: Efficient heat dissipation
· UK Design and Assembly: Quality assurance with local manufacturing and assembly
· Dedicated Support: Assistance available when needed
Limitations and Considerations before Operation:
· Inductive Loads: Users Should install a flyback diode near the load before use with inductive loads
· Overcurrent Protection: Not available below 4 Volts
· Overcurrent Protection: Set to approximately 3.5 Amps to preserve the LM2596 Module
· Prolonged Use at High Current:Drawing more than 2.5 Amps from a single output channel for prolonged periods may result in overheating of components on the LM2596 Module
· Maximum Voltage: Actual maximum output voltage is around 11.8 Volts from the adjustable and 12V outputs
The Overcurrent Module is pre-set during assembly with the following settings (do not adjust):
· Current Limit: Between 3.5 and 4 Amps
· Time Before Disconnect:Approximately 1-2 seconds
· Time Before Reset:Approximately 2-5 seconds
· The overcurrent module is less effective at lower voltages
· Status Indicators: Visible through the top vent
o Green LED: Normal operation
o Red LED: Overcurrent detected
· If the module fails to reset after multiple trips, power cycle the unit using the main switch on the AC input
General Connections:
· AC IEC Input Socket: Supplies power to the 12V 5 Amp SMPS
· Distribution Board A:Distributes power to the cooling fans and the overcurrent module input
· Overcurrent Module: Output is connected to the LM2596 Module
· LM2596: Outputs are distributed among the banana sockets
· All connections are made using 18-gauge silicone wire and crimp terminal connectors
· Note: For a more in-depth description of connections, please view our ‘Electrotoad MK2 Manufacturing Docs’ page
· Ventilation: Ensure the unit is well-ventilated during operation to prevent overheating
· Regular Inspection:Periodically check for any signs of wear or damage to the wires, connectors, and modules
· Proper Handling: Handle the unit with care, especially during maintenance or replacement of parts
· Not for Use by or Around Individuals with Pacemakers: or other electrically controlled medical equipment
· Use Within Specified Parameters:To avoid damage and other incidents
· Competent Users Only: Ensure proper understanding and handling of the unit
· Cooling Fans: Keep the cooling fans free from dust and debris to ensure efficient operation
