    Description

The Electrotoad MK3 12V3A is designed to deliver approximately 40 Watts of DC power with precise control over voltage. The single output channel is equipped with a PWM module, ensuring accurate and reliable performance.

    Applications

      · Hobby and DIY projects

    · Motor speed control

    · LED light dimming

    · Electroplating

    · Electroetching

    · Testing equipment

    Key Features:

    •   Banana Socket Output Channel: Independently controllable 1-12 Volt, 3 Amp output
    • Overcurrent Detection and Reset Above 4 Volts: Provides protection for high-voltage/current scenarios.
    • Easily Replaceable Parts: Simplified maintenance, repairs and modifications.
    • ABS Front Panel: Durable and user-friendly design
    • RGB Cooling Fan: Efficient heat dissipation
    • UK Design and Assembly: Quality assurance with      local manufacturing and assembly
    • Dedicated Support: Assistance available when needed

    Limitations and Considerations before Operation:

    • Inductive Loads: Users must install flyback diode near load before use with inductive loads
    • Short Circuit Protection: Short circuit protection      is limited and continuous shorts may damage PWM and/or ammeter.
    • Prolonged Use at High Current: To avoid damage caused by overheating of components, keep current below 2.5 Amps during prolonged use. Regularly check the power adapter plug for signs of excessive heat during operation.

    Overcurrent Module:

The Overcurrent Module is pre-set during assembly with the following settings (do not adjust):

    • Current Limit: Between 3 and 4 Amps
    • Time Before Disconnect: Approximately 1-2 seconds
    • Time Before Reset: Approximately 2-5 seconds
    • Overcurrent module is less      effective at lower voltages

Status indicators are visible through the top vent:

    • Green LED: Normal operation
    • Red LED: Overcurrent detected

If the module fails to reset, power cycle the unit using the main switch on the AC input.

    General Connections

    • 12V 3 Amp Power Adapter: Supplies DC power to the      main rocker switch/unit.
    • Distribution Board: Distributes power to the      RGB cooling fan and the overcurrent module input.
    • Overcurrent Module: Output is connected to the      PWM module
    • PWM Module: Outputs are connected to      analogue voltmeters.
    • Analogue Voltmeter: Negative terminals      connected to negative output.
    • Analogue Ammeters: Connected in series      between the positive terminals of the voltmeters and the positive outputs.

All connections are made using 18-gauge silicone wire and crimp terminal connectors.

Note: For a more in-depth description of connections, please visit the 'MK3 12V3A Maintenance’ page.

    Safety Precautions:

      · Ventilation: Ensure the unit is well-ventilated during operation to prevent overheating

    · Regular Inspection:Periodically check for any signs of wear or damage to the wires, connectors, and modules

    · Proper Handling: Handle the unit with care, especially during maintenance or replacement of parts

    · Not for Use by or Around Individuals with Pacemakers: or other electrically controlled medical equipment

    · Use Within Specified Parameters:To avoid damage and other incidents

    · Competent Users Only: Ensure proper understanding and handling of the unit

    Maintenance Tips:

      · Cooling Fans: Keep the cooling fans free from dust and debris to ensure efficient operation.

    · Calibration: Regularly check and calibrate the voltmeters and ammeters to maintain accuracy.

    · Component Replacement: Follow the replacement guide for PWM and analogue ammeters if they become damaged. Visit www.dodgedesigns.co.ukfor details.
